Knowledge base
Two new reference guides complement the app: Europe’s best spotting locations and the companies behind the trains. Thoroughly researched, cross-linked and free to read – no account needed.
Where exactly should you stand, when is the sun in the right place and is the trip even worth it? Every page lists specific viewpoints with the direction of the light, access and coordinates.
Which group is behind which brand, who actually runs the train and who built it? From state railways to freight operators, heritage railways and manufacturers.
You can download the Traintrack app for free, and at the moment there are no paid features either. In future there will be a few premium features, which you will then be able to unlock in the app with a monthly/annual in-app subscription. That way you help us, as a young start-up, to cover our development and server costs – so that we can keep Traintrack running.
You can download Traintrack for free from the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store – currently only in the DACH region (Germany, Austria and Switzerland). Please note that the app is currently only available in German. More languages will be added soon.
We add new classes and railway operators every day. Just send us a short email at finn@traintrackapp.de listing the operators and classes you think are still missing.

Yes. For one thing, we need an account so that we can assign uploaded photos to you and so that you can access your account on several devices (just like on Instagram, for example). For another, fair and respectful behaviour in the community matters a great deal to us, which is why we would rather not let in anonymous users we cannot take action against (e.g. by banning them). You do not have to use your real name when you sign up, though.
We store your data, such as your email address, your username and the photos you upload, on servers in Germany and apply the highest security standards so that your data is safe with us at all times. You can delete your account at any time in the app settings.
