Luxembourg rolling stock

Luxembourg buys rolling stock in small numbers and takes its cue from its neighbours. CFL classes are therefore almost always variants of designs that also run in Belgium, France or Germany – adapted for the multi-system capability the country cannot do without.

The network borders on three electrification systems: 15 kV AC towards Germany, 25 kV towards France and 3 kV DC towards Belgium. Any vehicle that leaves Luxembourg has to handle at least two of them.

For identification, that means the number alone is not enough. Only the combination of design, number of pantographs and keeper marking tells you reliably which variant is in front of you.
