Slovakia lies on the east–west axis between the Czech Republic and Ukraine. Freight from the east is transhipped at the broad-gauge border, which produces unusual encounters between vehicles in the east of the country.
Photography is permitted on platforms. ŽSR and ZSSK are relaxed about it as long as nobody crosses the safety line or enters operational railway land.
The Tatra lines offer a mountain backdrop with comparatively little traffic. If you are after train frequency, you are better off staying in the Bratislava region and combining your visit with Vienna.
